    In its 350th anniversary year, the Royal Society partnered with many of London's leading organisations from the arts, humanities and sciences to organise a year-long programme of exhibitions, talks, conferences, seminars and workshops.

    With these partnerships, we celebrated and explored diverse aspects of science, as well as science's history, future and wider cultural importance.

    Capital Science partnered the Society with leading London organisations, including museums and galleries, to celebrate the achievements of science, its history and its impact on our wider culture.

    29 September – Pathfinders:  The Golden Age of Arabic Science.  Professor Jim Al-Khalili in conversation with Roger Highfield at Asia House – part of the RS-AH Science and Asia season.

    30 September - An Even Shorter History of Nearly Everything.  A 350th anniversary lecture by Bill Bryson at Guildhall, followed by a City reception.  Organised in partnership with Gresham College and generously sponsored by the City of London Corporation.

     

    October

    1st OctoberScience and the Maritime Nation:  350 years of the Royal Society and the Royal Navy by Professor Andrew Lambert at the National Maritime Museum.  First lecture of the 9-week season.

    7 October - The Early Royal Society, Science and the Navy – featuring Dr David Davies and Professor Rob Iliffe.  Second lecture of the 9-week 'Science and the Maritime Nation' season, curated by the National Maritime Museum, hosted at the Royal Society.

    11 October - Making Ocean Life Count - part of the Natural History Museum's Inspired season

    18 November - The Curious Brain in the Museum: The 2010 Henry Cole lecture at the Victoria and Albert Museum - with Professor Uta Frith FRS.

    18 November - The Admiralty, the Royal Society and the Shipping Crisis of 1942-43 - featuring Dr Malcolm Llewellyn Jones (Naval Historical Branch) at the National Maritime Museum.  Part of the 'Science and the Maritime Nation' season.

    19 November - "Take Another Look - The Royal Society" at the National Portrait Gallery.  Gallery talk featuring Former Vice President of the Royal Society, Professor Sir John Enderby FRS.

    24 November - Islamic World Science - A New Renaissance? at Asia House.  Panel discussion chaired by Asia House Chairman Sir John Boyd and featuring Dr Natalie Day, Ehsan Masood, Ziauddin Sardar and Dr Rim Turkmani.  Part of the RS-AH Science and Asia season.

    25 November - Science and the Navy after the Second World War at the National Maritime Museum - featuring Professor Klaus Dodds and Dr Katrina Dean.  Part of the 'Science and the Maritime Nation' season.
