The Society’s Education Committee, established in 1969, advises Council on matters relating to education at all levels. The Society strongly supports a ‘science for all’ policy in education, recognising the need for education systems to train sufficient numbers of future scientists and engineers while also equipping all young people with the skills to engage critically with the increasing number of science-based issues that may affect their lives. The Society is committed to ensuring that the education systems across the UK performs this dual role effectively, providing policy advice to their Governments on matters such as the science and mathematics curricula, offering grants for projects which bring young people and scientists together, and supporting activities and resources designed to assist teachers and excite young people’s interest in these subjects.

In addition, the Society currently hosts the Advisory Committee on Mathematics Education (ACME) and the Science Community Representing Education (SCORE). Both the ACME and SCORE secretariats are based at the Royal Society, but the committees themselves are independent.  Both committees have their own websites, which you can visit for more information.
