Aim:
Generous support from The Ogden Trust and The Company of Actuaries Charitable Trust allows the Royal Society to launch a new Education Research Fellowship scheme that seeks to improve the quality of educational research and practice in the UK.
The Ogden Trust will support a Fellowship in the field of physics education research.
The Company of Actuaries Charitable Trust will support a Fellowship in the field of mathematics education research.
The ultimate aim of the Fellowships is to develop and support robust, evidence-based research feeding into national education policy and practice. Candidates will be appointed based on individual excellence and the relevance of their research work to both policy and practice.
Fellowships will cover salary and research expenses for up to five years. In addition, each fellowship offers:
- Interactions between Education Research Fellows, policy makers, practitioners and sponsors through support mechanisms and individual and organisational links
- Flexible working patterns with the option of reclaiming time spent part-time
Length of Tenure:
Up to five years.
The Society appointed 2 new ERFs following a meeting of the selection panel on 12 June 2009. The successful candidates were Dr Wai Yi Feng, University of Cambridge, who will undertake research on STEM Enhancement & Enrichment (funded by the Ogden Trust) and Dr Ian Jones, University of Nottingham who will undertake research on GCSE Mathematics assessment (funded by the Shuttleworth Foundation).
