As the UK's academy of science we seek to play an important role in helping to ensure that the UK is maximising the opportunity for all of the population to contribute to the development of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
We do this by working with partners from across the science and engineering communities, to help build an inclusive culture in science and engineering.
In July 2008, the Royal Society appointed the Equality and Diversity Advisory Network (EDAN) to:
- Advise the Royal Society in their responsibilities for Equality and Diversity
- Make suggestions for proportionate and practical actions designed to ensure best practice
- Monitor progress in implementing those suggestions
- Report to the Royal Society in July 2009 on progress and any recommendations for future action
Following that report, the Council of the Royal Society established EDAN as a formal committee for a period of three years.
