Local Heroes - Joseph Banks Walking Tour, Sunday 28th November 2pm-3.30pm
Eton College is opening its doors (and gardens!) for a special walking tour. Discover all about local hero Joseph Banks, one of the lesser-known giants of British science and Old Etonian. Walk down to the river in which the young botanist swam when he discovered his love for plants; have a peek at his old boarding house and finish with a visit to Eton's own Natural History Museum - which houses amongst other things a full-scale model of the cabin Banks slept in on his voyage with Captain Cook around the world!
This is a free family-friendly tour. It is important to note that as there is a significant amount of walking involved with some off-road, it is suitable for children over the age of five and for those with a reasonable level of fitness. Please bring suitable footwear for the walk down to the river. In spirit of the event, the college has kindly opened its doors for sensible walkers. You will have access to some areas not normally open to the general public, so we would appreciate your consideration during the visit.
Places are limited and available for pre-booking only. To book, please contact George Fussey on g.fussey@etoncollege.org.uk. Deadline for bookings is Thursday 25th November.
