    The Henry Maull studios specialised in portraits of noted individuals and were contracted to take photographs of Fellows from the mid-nineteenth century until the early twentieth century.

    During this time period Henry Maull formed several partnerships that were based in 62 Cheapside E.C, 187A Piccadilly W, 55 Gracechurch Street and Tavistock House, Fulham Road S.W. The dates and names of these partnerships are listed below:

    Maull & Polyblank 1856-65
    Maull, Henry & Co 1866-72
    Maull & Co 1873-78
    Maull & Fox 1879-1908

    The Society's collection has recently been digitised and thumbnails can be seen on our online Archive catalogue by searching for the sitter in the "AnyText" field and placing "IM" in the "RefNo" field.

Researching the Royal Society's library and archive collections

The Royal Society's library and archives are open to the public. Joining is quick and simple. It takes just a few minutes to register and new readers are always welcome.

Before you visit the library and archives

  • New readers will be asked to register and produce proof of address and photographic identification, such as a passport. To save time, you can download our registration form and bring it with you.
