By strengthening our support for outstanding scientists we will push back the boundaries of science to create new knowledge, improve quality of life and increase prosperity. Through research fellowships and funding programmes, meetings and publications and medals and prizes, we will work in partnership with universities and industry, both within the UK and internationally, to support excellent scientists and invest in the future of UK scientists. Through investing wisely today we will nurture future leaders of science and enable the UK to remain one of the world’s top scientific nations.
We will:
- Establish the Royal Society Enterprise Fund to stimulate entrepreneurship and innovation.
- Expand Industry/Academic Research Fellowships and introduce new initiatives to support exchanges and enhance transfer of knowledge between academia and industry.
- Continue to support the best scientists and engineers working in the UK through our grants and funding programmes.
- Support women in science, providing effective support for women who may otherwise drop out of research.
- Provide new professional development courses on innovation and entrepreneurship for research fellows in addition to the Society’s communication skills and media training courses for scientists.
- Step up our support for some of the exciting new research emerging from work that crosses traditional scientific boundaries.
- Continue to publish cutting edge scientific research in our eight high-quality, internationally peer-reviewed journals.
- Maintain our programme of highly regarded scientific discussion meetings – interdisciplinary, international two-day conferences on novel, innovative and exciting areas of science which also provide worldwide networking opportunities.
- Ensure the Society’s awards, medals and prizes continue to recognise excellence in science across the disciplines and reward those who have made and are making outstanding achievements.
