The Dorothy Hodgkin scheme arose from the Society’s own investigations into the situation of women scientists and by an independent report which aimed to advise on effective methods to retain women working in science, engineering and technology. Industry Fellowships aim to enhance knowledge transfer in science and technology between those in industry and those in academia
The Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship scheme offers a recognised first step into an independent research career for excellent scientists and engineers for whom career flexibility is essential. The fellowships are named for Nobel Laureate, Professor Dorothy Hodgkin OM FRS (1910-1994), a pioneer in the field of X-ray crystallography and the third woman to be elected to the Royal Society Fellowship. Industry Fellowships provide opportunities for an academic scientist to work on a collaborative project with industry, or someone employed in industry to work on a collaborative project with a university department or not-for-profit research organisation.
Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowships are held over a four year
period at a cost of £250,000 per Fellowship in total. Industry Fellowships
are held over a two year period at a cost of £100,000 per Fellowship
in total. These fellowship programmes offer opportunities for corporate
sponsors seeking to support women in science or industrial academic
linkages.
