The Royal Society holds ten interdisciplinary scientific Discussion Meetings and ten Theo Murphy international scientific meetings each year. The Discussion Meetings are published in dedicated issues of the journal Philosophical Transactions and Theo Murphy international scientific meetings may also be published at the discretion of the journal editors.
These meetings are intended to be pivotal events of lasting significance: a chance for leading and emerging scientists to examine current and future issues surrounding novel, dynamic, innovative and exciting areas of science, engineering and technology.
They are generally of two days duration, with experts in their fields invited to present on the latest developments in the subject and to stimulate discussion among those attending. Interdisciplinary subjects are especially appropriate to the Society's programme and suggestions for subjects with economic and social implications are welcomed.
Selection of the 2013 scientific meetings will be carried out by the Hooke Committee in January 2012. A list of meetings we have run in the last few years is available. If a meeting has been held recently on a specific topic, we are only likely to run another in the near future if significant progress has been made in the area since the original meeting.
