    Edward Troughton (1753-1835) was a respected London maker of scientific instruments. His innovations in design were rewarded by the Royal Society’s Copley Medal in 1809, and election as a Fellow the following year. This instrument was used by Henry Kater during the great trigonometrical survey of India in the 19th century.
