This scheme is for scientists whose research has been commercially exploited for significant wealth generation or societal benefit in the UK.
The award is open to any post-doctoral researcher in academic organisations, research institutes or any other research and technology organisation, including SME commercial organisations.
Nominations for are invited from all Fellows of the Society, Society research award holders, research institutions and industry. Self-nominations are allowed.
Applicants should ensure that they meet all the eligibility requirements.
The prize consists of a silver gilt medal, a prize of £5,000 and a research grant of up to £25,000.
This scheme is currently closed to applications.
One Mercer Prize is awarded each year.
Industry FellowshipFor academic scientists who want to work on a collaborative project with industry and for scientists in industry who want to work on a collaborative project with an academic organisation.
Brian Mercer Feasibility AwardFor scientists who wish to investigate the feasibility of commercialising an aspect of their research.
Brian Mercer Award for InnovationFor scientists who wish to develop an already proven concept or prototype into a near-market product, ready for commercial exploitation.
