Inside Science - Spring 2010
The first issue of Inside Science in this, the Society’s 350th anniversary year, focuses on events and activities that reflect the breadth of our programme of work, as well as special events taking place all over the country.
The magazine organises our activities under the Society’s five strategic priorities, providing us with the opportunity to demonstrate how the work of the Royal Society contributes to shaping the future of science in the UK and beyond.
In this issue we look at:
- The Society’s Enterprise Fund, which recently revealed details of its first three investments. Find out about these companies and how the Fund is supporting potential commercial opportunities with a realistic chance to deliver.
- MPs, civil servants and scientists have been working together in Parliament during the Society’s ninth Pairing Scheme, which held its annual ‘week in Westminster’ late last year.
- Making science relevant to students is the focus of the most recent set of projects announced under our Partnership Grants scheme – in this issue we reveal the projects the Society will be supporting in 2010.
- Late last year we held a trilateral Frontiers of Science meeting in Beijing, which marked the beginning of the Society’s 350th celebrations internationally. We find out exactly what the meetings mean to those who get to take part, and how the UK benefits from the collaborations formed.
