Sir Peter Williams CBE FREng FRS (Chairman) is Honorary Treasurer and Vice President of the Royal Society and Chairman of the National Physical Laboratory. He is a non executive director of W.S. Atkins plc and a Trustee of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Adrian Beecroft is Chairman of Dawn Capital, the London based venture firm, former chief investment officer at Apax Partners, former chairman of the British Venture Capital Association and founder of the Beecroft Institute of Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology at Oxford University.

Roger Brooke founded Candover Investments and retired as Chairman in May 1999. His previous directorships include EMI and Beeson Gregory Group plc and he was also chairman of the Audit Commission.

Professor Anthony Cheetham FRS is the Goldsmiths' Professor of Materials Science at the University of Cambridge. He is a founder and former General Partner of NGEN Enabling Technologies Fund and was the Science Advisor to the Board of Unilever.

Dr Julie Maxton is the Executive Director of the Royal Society. She was previously Professor of Law, Dean of the Law Faculty and Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Auckland and then Registrar of the University of Oxford.
