Summer Science Exhibition

Do you want to promote your research at the UK's most prestigious Science Exhibition? And be part of the Royal Society's 350th anniversary celebrations?

2010 is the Royal Society's 350th anniversary and to celebrate the Society is holding its annual Summer Science Exhibition at the Southbank Centre in London, from 26 June-4 July 2010.  Surrounded by a packed 9-day festival of events, the Exhibition will form the centrepiece of the biggest year of science yet.  And you could be part of it.

The call for proposals for the 2010 Exhibition is now open.  Closing date 31 July 2009.

Why Exhibit?

The 2010 Exhibition offers a unique opportunity:

  • join the Royal Society in highlightling the importance of scientific research and celebrating cutting edge UK science;
  • raise the profile of your research and institution with key influencers, including potential funders, givernment and the public;
  • tap into the Society's extensive and influential media networks, including links with the BBC who have declared 2010 their 'Year of Science';
  • enthuse 4,000 secondary school students about science and careers in science;
  • engage with 30,000 members of the public, and many more online;
  • enhance your communication skills;
  • network with other research teams and scientists, and enjoy yourself!

The Exhibition makes a significant contribution to the Society's work in encouraging public engagement with science and promoting science education.  It gives scientists an opportunity to put their research and institution in the spotlight, and the public a chance to find out more about new scientific advances by meeting the minds behind them.  The large number of secondary school students attending the Exhibition also gives exhibitors the opportunity to influence and enthuse potential university students about careers in science.

This year the Society's selection Commitee, chaired by Professor Jocelyn Bell Burnell DBE FRS, will select around 20-30 teams to share the excitement of their research at the 350th anniversary Summer Science Exhibition. The emphasis is on interactive and hands-on exhibits that will enthuse the general public about new scientific advances.

So why not put in a proposal and you could take part in this prestigious event.

'No one who appreciates science and can get to London should miss the Summer Science Exhibition' Bill Bryson, author of A Short History of Nearly Everything.

You will find the links on the left hand side useful to assist you in making your decision to submit a proposal.  If you would like to discuss your ideas before committing yourself to write a proposal, you are more than welcome to have an informal chat with Madeleine Bell, Exhibition Manager on 0207 451 2607 or exhibition@royalsociety.org.
