Michael Gernon

Michael Gernon is principal of The RSA Academy (formerly Willingsworth High School), one of the new academies opened in 2008. The Academy is sponsored by the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce and is located in the West Midlands.

The Academy is the first in the UK to follow the Opening Minds curriculum throughout all year groups. The Opening Minds curriculum is based on a set of competences which challenge students in their ability to think, to learn, to manage people, information and situations. The curriculum is designed to meet the individual needs of all students, build on their strengths and improve their areas of development; enabling young people to cope with a world which is changing constantly and rapidly, together with the challenges of ICT and of globalization.

Michael Gernon is a member of the Vision for science and mathematics education 5-19 project committee.
