International collaboration as a proportion of national output 1996-2008
Collaboration in absolute terms is an increasingly important factor in each country’s publication output. However, the proportion of that national output that collaboration represents differs for individual countries. This motion graph shows the development over time for all countries with over 1500 collaborations per year. For further details, see Section 2.1 and Figure 2.2 in the report.
Note: Data in some subject fields in 2000, 2001 and 2002 lacked complete author affiliation details; therefore, the ‘fall back’ over these years suggested in the movie is not indicative of a real decline in publications. In the report, the data for these years have been smoothed out.
