Overview

Students at the 2009 exhibition

Researchers from the UK are creating novel shape-changing structures that could be straight out of a spy film.

“Our research aims to develop shape-changing solutions for new technologies, for example, very thin roll-up electronic displays that can be easily stored away, or morphing skins to give vehicles better drag performance and hence better fuel efficiency”, says Dr Keith Seffen, Engineering Department, University of Cambridge.

Visitors to the exhibit will be able to try their hand at models that change shape, and witness these exciting structures first-hand. Mock-up and prototype models of technology currently under research will also be on display.

Exhibited by University of Cambridge; University of Bristol; Rolatube Technology; The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
