This scheme is only available to successful awardees of the APEX grant and provides between £500 and £10,000 for public engagement activity relating to the holder’s APEX project, split across two years.
What is the APEX Public Engagement Grant?
Public engagement can have a variety of interpretations, but the definition developed by the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) is the most widely accepted. In their definition, public engagement "describes the many ways in which the activity and benefits of higher education and research can be shared with the public. Engagement is by definition a two-way process, involving interaction and listening, with the goal of generating mutual benefit."
The Public Engagement Grant for APEX award holders is an additional fund that successful APEX award holders from the latest round can apply for, in addition to their main APEX grant.
The grant aims to support successful APEX award holders in undertaking public engagement projects based on their research, and to increase the knowledge, skills and confidence of researchers undertaking public engagement projects.
