New approaches to the treatment of Schizophrenia

"My research focuses on the treatment of psychiatric disorders, and particularly the debilitating mental symptoms that currently available drugs do not treat. Because developing new drugs can take years, I am working with Schering Plough on process innovation to improve the predictive validity of preclinical research, a key step in drug development.

The aim of this project is to develop new tests which will enable more rapid identification and progression of drugs that will improve symptoms of diseases such as schizophrenia. This is especially important since current medications do not alleviate some of the most serious symptoms of the illness."
