Young People's Book Prize

Teachers who are signed up to the Royal Society Schools Network can apply in advance to be a judging panel for the next round of the Young People's Book Prize.

Every year an adult panel of judges chooses a shortlist of six brilliant science books written in the previous year. Once these have been selected, we hand over the task of choosing a winner to young people aged up to 14. We invite school and youth groups to join our collection of judging panels from across the UK who help to pick the winner of the Young People's Book Prize. In 2018 over 350 judging panels were accepted, and received a free set of shortlisted books.

Running a judging panel for the Young People's Book Prize is a great way of developing literacy skills in young people who are interested in science, and an interest in science amongst those who have a passion for reading. For those that are chosen to be one of the official judging panels, it is an opportunity to receive six brilliant books aimed at enthusing and exciting children about science to add to the school library.

To find out more about the judging panels, please visit the Young People's Book Prize page for school groups.
