Professor Martyn Poliakoff nominated as next Foreign Secretary of the Royal Society
18 May 2011The Council of the Royal Society has agreed to nominate Professor Martyn Poliakoff CBE to be the new Foreign Secretary of the Royal Society, it was announced today (18 May 2011). He is nominated to succeed Professor Lorna Casselton.

Fellows will be asked to indicate their support for the Council’s nominated candidate on the ballot paper for the annual election of Council members. The result of the ballot will be confirmed at the Council meeting on 7 July 2011.
Martyn Poliakoff is Research Professor in Chemistry at the University of Nottingham, Honorary Professor at Moscow State University and Honorary Member of the Chemical Society of Ethiopia. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2002. His current research interests involve chemical applications of supercritical fluids, with particular emphasis on green chemistry. The post of Foreign Secretary of the Royal Society dates back to 1723 and predates the post of Foreign Secretary in HM Government by sixty years.
