Roger Taylor has been appointed as chair of the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation.

Professor Dame Ottoline Leyser FRS, co-chair of the Royal Society and British Academy’s data governance report (PDF), commented:

“We are very pleased to see the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation start to take shape, with the appointment of Roger Taylor and the consultation process announced. The UK is at the forefront of developing innovative approaches to emerging technologies with public confidence. The CDEI is an opportunity for the UK to lead the way internationally in responding to the ethical and social impacts of new uses of data. We look forward to working with the government to support and advise on the formation of the CDEI and the appropriate governance of data and AI.”
