Royal Society President statement on racial inequality

03 June 2020

In response to the appalling recent events in the US that have shone a spotlight on racial inequality in all its guises, the Royal Society’s President, Venki Ramakrishnan, has addressed the issue of racial inequality in relation to science.

He said, “Racial inequality is a blight on society. This leaves many black and minority ethnic people on an unequal playing field before they have even started. And that disadvantage often continues throughout their lives. We need to do more to make sure opportunities are open to all and that everyone is treated fairly and with respect. The science sector is no exception and we have plenty to do.”

Diversity is an important strand of the Royal Society’s work and you can find out more here.
