Royal Society welcomes appointment of Ian Chapman as UKRI CEO

Responding to the appointment of Professor Sir Ian Chapman FRS as the next Chief Executive of UKRI, Sir Adrian Smith, President of the Royal Society, said:

“I am delighted that Ian Chapman has been confirmed as the next CEO of UK Research and Innovation. Having worked with Ian over many years at UKAEA, I have every confidence in his ability both as a scientist and a leader to oversee UKRI’s vital work over the next five years.

“This is a critical moment. The UK must be ambitious and forward thinking to unlock the potential of technologies like quantum computing and AI, respond to our environmental crises of climate change and biodiversity loss, and train and attract global talent in an increasingly competitive environment.”
