Summary: I work in analytic number theory in pure mathematics. I am developing, along with many collaborators, an alternative approach to many of the main issues in the subject. We hope that these new ideas will help unstick several key issues where we have been stuck for a very long time. C|ertainly there have now been some spectacular breakthroughs, for example on the Erdos Discrepancy problem, that have been aided by the change in perspective that we have fostered
I am not so happy to use this at this stage -- perhaps later when we are closer to conclusions. In mathematics one does not necessarily clearly see the outcome of a research project at the start, which makes it very different from many other scientific disciplines.
