Professor Bostjan Kobe FRS

Bostjan Kobe obtained an undergraduate degree at University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) and a PhD at the University of Texas Southwestern (Dallas, USA). He has worked in Australia at St. Vincent’s Institute (Melbourne) and, since 2000, at the University of Queensland (Brisbane). He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science since 2018.

Bostjan is a structural biologist who has made contributions in interrelated areas spanning protein structure, protein regulation, signal transduction, subcellular protein trafficking, innate immunity and structural-biology methods development. Highlights include defining the solenoid class of protein structures, characterizing active site-directed protein regulation, describing the mechanism of signalling by cooperative assembly formation, and establishing fusion proteins and microcrystal electron diffraction as tools in structural biology. In addition to publishing original research, he has served as a dominant opinion leader in all these areas, through contributing key reviews, commentaries and presentations.
