Research summary

The effect of droplets on the propagation of premixed or diffusion flames in laminar stretched flames is investigated experimentally by using a counterflow flame burner. A fine spray mist of near-monodisperse droplets of either combustible liquids such as water or flammable liquid fuels is mixed with background gaseous mixtures of oxygen, combustible fuel or diluents. The effect of the presence of droplets spray mist on the bulk flame speed and flame structure is examined as a function of strain rate. Further, the detailed flame structure under varied droplet concentration rates will be examined by using advanced laser diagnostic methods.
