Research summary

Many drugs fail to demonstrate efficacy as they move from the bench to the clinic. This is generally because the therapeutic effectiveness of the drugs is not clearly observed in clinical trials. My industrial partner has much experience in these issues and many of their compounds that initially showed great promise have ultimately been halted in development because of this inability to translate therapeutic effects on the bench to the patient. Our work aims to develop new formulations of these halted drugs in nanoparticle formulations that could improve their delivery, reduce toxicity and ultimately improve therapeutic effects. We envisage that the results of our work could have application in a broad range of conditions including asthma, COPD and sepsis
