David Parker is a chemist, distinguished for his innovative work on the design, synthesis and application of tailored molecules, metal complexes and conjugates. His work is innovative and far-reaching, including the design of new substances that can be used in assays of bioactive substances, diagnostic medical imaging, pH-sensing and medical therapies.
David is able traverse the traditional boundaries of different types of chemistry in order to develop original and effective new agents. He has developed new families of macrocyclic complexes, which contain a metal in a ring of more than 12 atoms. These were subsequently proven to be effective in imaging and therapeutic applications and have been evaluated in clinical trials.
David is currently Professor of Chemistry at the University of Durham. He leads the Parker Group, a group of researchers who create and study the properties of new chemical agents. He has published over 300 papers and 40 patents, and has won numerous awards, including the triennial Lecoq de Boisbaudran Senior Award in 2012.
