Professor Guy Wilkinson FRS

Guy Wilkinson is an experimental physicist who studies CP-violation, which is the difference in behaviour between matter and antimatter, and related open questions of the Standard Model of particle physics. He tackles these challenges through measurements of rare processes involving the decays of hadrons containing beauty or charm quarks.  Guy has worked on several projects which have made great progress in this quest, and was a founding member the LHCb experiment on the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, which he led as Spokesperson between 2014 and 2017.

In the first phase of his career Guy studied electroweak physics on the DELPHI experiment, also at CERN. Here he played an important role in the measurement of the mass and width of the Z boson, and the mass of the W, through performing a precise determination of the collision energy of the accelerator.

In 2017, Guy was awarded the Chadwick Medal and Prize by the Institute of Physics for his studies of heavy quarks, in particular his decisive contribution to the LHCb experiment.
