Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon FRS

Jean-Pierre Bourguignon graduated from École polytechnique in 1968 and got his thèse d’État ès sciences mathématiques from Université Paris 7 in 1974. His field is Differential Geometry and Global Analysis at the interface with Theoretical Physics. He has been affiliated with the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) from 1969 to 2013. Professor at École polytechnique from 1986 to 2012, he was the Director of the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHÉS) from 1994 to 2013. He was the President of the Société Mathématique de France from 1990 to 1992, of the European Mathematical Society from 1995 to 1998, and then of the European Research Council (ERC) from 2014 to 2019, by interim  from July 2020 to August 2021. He holds honorary degrees from several universities.
