Linda-May Bingham

Linda-May has worked in education in the East End of London for 16 years. Formerly a nurse at The Royal London hospital, she re-trained having become interested in education while bringing up her own six children.

She has been headteacher at Britannia Village Primary School in Newham since January 2005. At that time it was a school of concern to the local authority (known as a category 4 school). Under Linda-May's leadership standards increased dramatically and by May 2007 the school was judged outstanding by Ofsted (and again in 2010).

The school's many successes under Linda-May's leadership are demonstrated in part by achieving Key Stage 2 SATs results listed in the top 200 schools nationally, the Gold Arts Mark award, Healthy School Status, Silver Eco Award, Basic Skills Quality Mark and becoming a partner school of the Royal Society. Her dedication to working closely with other local schools in creating inspirational experiences for their many deprived pupils was recognised when the partnership of five headteachers won the 2011 London Education Partnership Awards for 'Creative Journeys'.

Her dream is to extend this success by providing an excellent secondary education for Britannia Village pupils in a small scale All-Through school. In order to hone the best possible educational setting Linda-May has visited schools in both Norway and Denmark to incorporate the best elements of their practice.

In addition to her school commitment Linda-May is also a representative headteacher on Newham's strategic Primary Partnership Board.

Linda-May Bingham is a member of the Vision for science and mathematics education 5-19 project committee.
