Professor Michael Bickle FRS

Michael Bickle is a geologist who studies the evolution of the Earth. His research focuses on tectonics and geochemistry, and he combines field research projects and physical modelling in order to better understand the processes that control global evolution and its surface environment.

Much of Michael’s work relates to tectonic processes within the Earth, whilst his other studies have examined the thermal evolution of mountain belts. In addition, he has used the geochemistry of rivers to evaluate both long-term fluxes to oceans and long-term climate change. His research interests also extend to geological carbon storage, including assessments of natural carbon dioxide storage.

Michael is the Director of the Cambridge Centre for Carbon Capture and Storage. In 2003, he was awarded the Coke Medal of the Geological Society of London.
