Robert taught mathematics for 21 years in four secondary schools from 1977 to 1998. For the last ten years he was on the senior management team and head of mathematics at Hagley Catholic School. He then became County Mathematics Inspector for Worcestershire up to 2004. From 2002 he was also responsible as a Senior Inspector for schools causing concern. In 2004 Robert became a Head of Service in the education department of the City and County of Swansea and then Chief Education Officer for Blaenau Gwent in 2008. In 2010 he joined Ofsted as one of Her Majesty's Inspectors, working mainly in the West Midlands. He was also a member of the HMI maths team. In 2013 Robert retired from Ofsted and now works as a consultant. Robert is a member of the Mathematical Association and of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.
