Dr Robert Smith

Biography

Rob is an Royal Society University Research Fellow at the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge. He studies many-body quantum phenomena using ultracold gases and specializes in the study of interacting Bose gases in homogeneous potentials.

The first five years of his research career were spent investigating magnetism, superconductivity and quantum phase transitions in the more conventional condensed matter setting of the Quantum Matter group in Cambridge. Then in 2008, recognising the potential for the study of many body physics, he switched fields to study cold atomic gases and in 2012 he became a Royal Society University Research Fellow.
