Professor Roberto Desimone


Professor Roberto Desimone is currently managing strategic innovation with disruptive technologies at BAE Systems Applied Intelligence. He has a proven track record in applied research and innovation in both industry and academia within the UK and US, with a PhD in AI (Machine Learning) from Edinburgh University. Following post-doctoral research in the AI Applications Institute (Edinburgh), he worked in the US on DARPA programs at the Stanford Research Institute during the early 1990s, and returned to the UK in 1995, where he worked for the MoD Defence Evaluation Research Agency and QinetiQ, exploiting AI technology for military command decision-making and crisis response management tasks, prior to joining BAE Systems in 2010.  He has been a Royal Society Entrepreneur in residence at the Quantum Engineering Technology Labs (Bristol University) since 2019, and is a visiting professor of quantum systems engineering at Loughborough University. He is also a director at Plantagenet Systems Ltd, an IT consultancy that specialises in the commercialisation of quantum computing/AI.
