Research summary

The area under study focuses on the development of compounds acting as facilitators of organic reactions - catalysts- and as anti-cancer reagents. Some recent results highlight how a family of GOLD complexes can act in both fields- and quite effectively.

The greenhouse gas CO2 has been converted to carboxylic acids and esters using gold and copper systems and this using usually inert C-H bonds.

Two organogold complexes have exhibited anti-cancer activities against various cancer cell lines - some of the activities rival the widely used cis-platin drug. More complexes are being tested.

Areas directly affected by these discoveries are the fine and pharmaceutical chemicals filed and medicinal and health areas.
