Research summary

Rapid advances in internet technologies lead to an amazing growth of images, videos and 3D geometric model data. We call these media data unifiedly visual media. We study visual media from a viewpoint of visual manifold, in which color or texture information is related to curvatures in manifold. By mapping visual media to a low-dimensional manifold in a feature space, intrinsic geometric analysis on manifold such as geodesic Voronoi diagram and dual Delaunay structure can be used to provide an elegant solution to analyze the contents of visual media collaboratively. Based on intrinsic structure analysis on manifolds, we will explore diverse applications in visual media analysis and understanding. This joined research is developed by me and Dr. Yukun Lai from Cardiff University, UK.
