The panel will look at how the research community can provide the best scientific advice to MEPs to inform their decision making, hearing first-hand from MEPs themselves.
MEPs make important decisions about public policies that impact the UK, Europe and the rest of the world. To help them do this, they need access to the best independent scientific advice.
But how can the science community continue to provide information on rapidly evolving, high public interest, policy issues in a form that is valuable to MEPs?
This PolicyLab event will bring together MEPs, the research community and NGOs to discuss the role of science in the European Parliament and how we can ensure that independent scientific advice is a core aspect of the policy making process in Europe.
Professor Janet Thornton FRS, will chair a panel of speakers including:
- Catherine Bearder MEP, Liberal Democrat Member for South East England
- Vicky Ford MEP, Conservative Member for East of England
- Layla Theiner, Head of Public Affairs and Campaigning, Cancer Research UK
