Talk: Shooting the stars
This event is part of the Royal Society's Summer Science Exhibition 2026.
Have you ever wanted to try your hand at capturing photos of the night sky? It may seem like a pursuit reserved for experienced professionals, but with the right set up, it can be surprisingly easy to become an amateur astrophotographer yourself.
In this talk, Charlotte Daniels – Senior engineer (space) at Bluestaq UK, former BBC Sky at Night Magazine's reviews editor, and an experienced astrophotographer and image processor – will show you how. She will explain how to choose the right equipment and how to get to grips with composition and capture to take spectacular pictures of the Milky Way, the Moon and even galaxies, far, far away. You’ll even find out how you can use your smartphone to capture the beauty of space.
You’ll be shooting the stars in no time.
