This event is part of the Royal Society's Summer Science Exhibition 2026.

Art and science are often thought of as opposing ways of viewing the world, but are they really as different as they seem? This panel brings together creative practitioners and researchers working across mediums to explore the varied ways artists and scientists can work together.

From interdisciplinary research projects to public engagement, learn how artists and scientists can enrich each other’s perspectives – and our lives.

Speakers include:

  • Professor Dorina Cadar – Leader of the Cognitive Epidemiology, Dementia, and Ageing Research (CEDAR) lab at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, researching how social connection and creativity can build psychological and cognitive resilience for healthy ageing
  • Dr Sylvan Baker – Senior Lecturer in Applied Theatre at Central School of Speech and Drama and practitioner with over 30 years of experience. Contributor to a range of transdisciplinary research projects bringing together art, science, and wellbeing
  • Professor Gilly Forrester (Chair) – Professor of Comparative Cognition at the University of Sussex and curator of the Science Futures area at Glastonbury Festival
