Following careful consideration of the current course of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 Summer Science Exhibition, including the Soirées.

This page is to provide additional information about the Royal Society’s annual Summer Science Exhibition Soirées to invited guests. Please note that it is not possible to request an invitation.

What are the Soirées?

An invitation-only event for guests to enjoy a private viewing of the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition as well as an exclusive drinks reception followed by a sit-down, three-course buffet dinner.

What is the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition?

The Summer Science Exhibition is the Society’s most prestigious public event of the year and showcases more than 20 examples of cutting-edge science, staffed by the scientists and engineers themselves. Guests will have an opportunity to meet the researchers behind these new advances and interact with the science on display.

Dating back to 1778, the Soirées bring together leading figures from across the science community to discover the innovative science on display.

When are the Soirées?

Wednesday 8 July and Thursday 9 July.

Please note you will have received an invitation for a particular date.

Where do the Soirées take place?

The Soirées will be held at the Royal Society.

What time do the Soirées start and finish?

Doors will open at 7.30pm. The drinks reception and dinner are served from 7.30pm. The exhibits are available from 7.30pm. Carriages are at 10pm. 

What is the dress code?

The dress code for the Soirées is black tie - optional. Guests may wear dinner jackets, tuxedos, dark suits, evening/cocktail dresses, formal/business wear or cultural wear. You are welcome to wear decorations (e.g. badges and medals) if you wish.   

Can I bring a plus one? 

Your invitation is for you and a plus one. The invitations are not transferrable. You will have been asked to share the name of your guest when accepting the invitation. If you need to change or update the information you have provided then please email soirees@royalsociety.org.

Is the building wheelchair accessible?

Do I need to bring my invitation with me?

No.
