Fat body slim: shape matters!

Fat boy slim BodPod

Researchers from Robert Gordon University are studying how obesity, fat distribution and body shape can cause health problems.

Obesity has reached epidemic proportions and the World Health Organisation estimates that, by 2015, about 3 billion adults will be overweight or obese worldwide.

“Knowing how a person’s fat distribution and quantity influence the development of these diseases and how dietary interventions can affect weight and cardiovascular risk is essential to prevent a global epidemic of obesity-related disease”, says Dr Giovanna Bermano from the Institute for Health and Welfare Research and the Centre for Obesity Research and Epidemiology (CORE), Robert Gordon University.

Visitors to the exhibit will be able see what fat cells look like under the microscope, to understand their role in diseases and to test their knowledge on myths versus facts about obesity.
