Insights - Visions of 2035 workshops

Mock up of what a voting form could look like in 2025
Public Ballot (Artist: Tere Chad): Mock up of a 2035 voting form from the Museum of Extraordinary Objects

During 12 Visions of 2035 workshops, individuals across the research community explored the future of the culture of research. During these conversations, five common themes emerged:

  • Recognition and Esteem
  • Setting Culture
  • A Culture of Mobility
  • Open Science
  • Fostering Scientific Leadership

There was clear consensus amongst participants that a change in today’s research culture is necessary to ensure the conditions for excellence. Launched in January 2018, Research culture: embedding inclusive excellence summarises the insights. The document identifies ways in which the Society and others can further support excellence in the research community. It highlights areas where action is needed and invites discussion on the forms that this might take.
