This statement covers a range of topics including: the provision of independent and credible scientific advice; methods of informing public opinion; and society, scientific uncertainty and risk. The report recommends that public opinion about science and technology should be carefully monitored. It also recommends that the Government provide a set of criteria for assessing the independence of scientific advisors. A code of practice for media coverage of science is also suggested.
