This is a report of a meeting held by the Wellcome Trust and the Royal Society in London on 3 February 2003. The purpose of the meeting was to brainstorm and debate what the field of genetics might deliver in 20 years time and to identify what the policy implications of developments in this area might be. The meeting was attended by approximately 50 participants including life scientists, members of the policy community and representatives of the clinical and social sciences. This document summarises the ideas expressed at the meeting and does not necessarily represent the views of the Wellcome Trust or the Royal Society.
