Submission to the Home Affairs Committee inquiry on the Psychoactive Substances Bill

02 September 2015

Following plans announced in the Queen’s Speech to ban psychoactive drugs, the Home Affairs Committee is holding an inquiry into the likely impact of the proposed Psychoactive Substances Bill.

The Royal Society has supported a joint submission to the inquiry along with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, the Academy of Medical Sciences, the Society of Biology, the Wellcome Trust and the British Pharmacological Society.

The Submission raises our concerns that the Bill, as currently drafted, could have potentially unintended consequences for research.
