People of Science with Brian Cox: Sir David Spiegelhalter

Sir David Spiegelhalter discusses how the work of amateur mathematician Thomas Bayes and statistician Ronald Fisher - a leading proponent of eugenics, holding lifelong (and completely discredited) racist views - helped to shape the current thinking of probability.

In the People of Science interview series, Professor Brian Cox is joined by Royal Society Fellows who reveal their favourite scientists in history.

Each episode showcases artefacts from the Royal Society’s archive, helping to bring their stories alive. The archive items featured in each film can be explored on Google’s Cultural Institute and you can also read work by Bayes and Fisher published by the Royal Society.
