Terms and conditions: Science Book Prize display competition
- This competition is organised by The Royal Society of London for Improving Natural Knowledge (known simply as 'The Royal Society') of 6-9 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5AG, registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales under number 207043.
- The competition is only open to bookshops in the UK. Entrants must be aged 18 years or over, and not employees of the Royal Society, their families, agents or any third party directly associated with administration of the prize draw. Proof of age may be required.
- Bookshops can register for a free point of sale (POS) pack between 9am BST on 16 September 2024 and 12pm BST on 6 October 2024.
- Bookshops should share there displays on their own Instagram or Twitter/X by 12pm BST on 13 October 2024.
- By entering the competition entrants warrant that all information submitted by them is true, current, and complete. Entrants also warrant that they are the copyright owners of any copyright works submitted, for example photographs and videos, and the Royal Society’s use of such works will not infringe the rights of any third party.
- Five winners of the Science Book Prize: Display Competition will be selected by members of the Royal Society team from eligible entrants. They will be notified by email no later than 12pm BST on 15 October 2024. They must promptly confirm they are happy to accept their prize and re-confirm their postal address for delivery. If the Royal Society has not received this confirmation and information within 48 hours of notifying a winner, the Royal Society will have no obligation to deliver the prize and at its sole discretion, it may select a further winner to receive the prize concerned or simply decide not to give it.
- The Royal Society will aim to post the prize of 10x tote bags and 10x signed book plates to the postal address provided by each of five winners after the Science Book Prize 2024 winner being announced on 24 October 2024.
- Winners are responsible for any taxes or duties they may have to pay in order to take receipt of their prize.
- No responsibility can be accepted for prizes that are delayed or lost.
- The Royal Society will at its sole discretion will share five winning bookshop displays on its social media channels and by entering the competition an entrant agrees to this publicity should they be a prize-winner.
- *One overall winner will be chosen by a random draw from the five selected for the Science Book Prize: Display Competition and notified by email no later than 12pm BST on 15 October 2024. They must promptly confirm they are happy to accept their prize and liaise with the Royal Society team around travel and accommodation arrangements. If the Royal Society has not received this confirmation and information within 48 hours of notifying a winner, the Royal Society will have no obligation to deliver the prize and at its sole discretion, it may select a further winner to receive the prize concerned or simply decide not to give it.
- The one overall winner will receive two tickets to the Science Book Prize 2024 award ceremony and dinner held at the Royal Society on 24 October 2024, one overnight stay for two guests on 24 October 2024 in up to two standard rooms at the Strand Palace Hotel in London, and up to a total of £200 of standard class travel expenses (incurred to attend the ceremony) paid on the email of receipts to sciencebooks@royalsociety.org. Receipts must be received within one month of the award ceremony. Attendees of the Science Book Prize 2024 award ceremony and guests at the hotel must be aged 18 or over. No additional expenses incurred during the trip will be paid. The winner must be available to travel on the date specified.
- Insofar as is permitted by law, the Royal Society, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prizes except where it is caused by the negligence of the Royal Society, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.
- The Royal Society is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy and will only use your personal information in accordance with these Terms and Conditions and the Royal Society's Privacy Policy which is available on our website: www.royalsociety.org/privacy-policy.
- By entering the prize draw you agree that any personal information provided by you with your entry may be held and used by the Royal Society or its agents and suppliers to administer the competition.
- The Royal Society may cancel or amend any competition, competition information, prizes, or these terms and conditions without prior notice. Any changes will be posted either within the competition information or these terms and conditions.
