Panel discussion with Professor Nicole Grobert, Professor Jenny Nelson, Dr Zita Martins, Dr Alison Rust, Sir John Sulston FRS.

Event details

From volcanoes to nanotechnology, four researchers talk about what we are only just finding out.

Nicole Grobert is a Royal Society University Research Fellow at the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on the synthesis, processing, and characterisation of novel carbon and non-carbon based nanomaterials, including nanoparticles, nanotubes, nanorods, graphene and other 2D nanomaterials.

Zita Martins is a Royal Society University Research Fellow at Imperial College London. Her work looks to analyse organic molecules in meteorites to try and identify signatures of life, past and present, throughout our solar system.

Jenny Nelson is a Professor of Physics at Imperial College London, and holds a Royal Society Industry Fellowship. She was awarded the Royal Society Armourers & Brasiers' Company Prize in 2012 in recognition of her theoretical insight into the many factors affecting the fabrication and performance of organic photovoltaics.

Alison Rust is a Royal Society University Research Fellow at University of Bristol. She studies the dynamics of volcanic processes using a combination of laboratory experiments, theoretical fluid mechanics, fieldwork and petrology.

The event is chaired and introduced by Sir John Sulston FRS, who is Chair of the Institute for Science, Ethics and Innovation at the University of Manchester.
